Buying and Selling a Website 101
Let's talk about the 800 pound gorilla in the room, the one that you never want to address the one that deals with you not being happy with your job. If you are like most people then you already know deep down that you absolutely hate your job. The constant annoyance of your boss standing over your shoulder. Well I am here to give you good news, I am here to tell you that you can quit that 9 to 5 job and go to work for yourself. How is this possible, well I will tell you all you have to do is go into the business of buying and selling websites and within no time you will be making a comfortable living.
Don't believe me that there is money to be made in this business then just take a look through a Google search of the term web flipping. You will be amazed at the amount of money that there is to be made with buying and selling of websites. There are several things that need to be considered when you are in the process of flipping websites. The one thing that you need to keep in mind is this simple rule if you don't act on the possibilities that are in the field of flipping websites then someone else will cash in on this gold mine, leaving you out in the cold.
The first step is to locate a website that you can setup for resale. You have a couple of options: 1) purchase a domain name, build a website yourself, and get it hosted; or 2) locate an already-established website that you can buy fro is owner. If you choose the latter option, you might want t look at Site Snipe, which is a service that provide you information on all of the niche domains that are currently available for purchase. For example, you may want to try to market and sell a site centered on stock-car driving Labradors. You simply consult Site Snipe and it provides you with leads on every website for sale that meets that description. While you may later discover better methods for locating prime web real estate, you should seriously consider using this type of service during the initial stages of your website reselling efforts
Now that you are ready to acquire your website to flip you will now need to decide on the niche that you are going to try and place your domain in. You will need to decide as to where you want to compete with the other sites that are out there to try and make money. Lets say that your business plan has you selling surfboards, you will want to make sure to have a site that reflects this niche and describes you and your business. Lets say that you are buying this site from a person who previously owned this site then you will want to know the stats that the site has to offer it's potential buyers. Things that you will need to keep in mind is the SEO ranking of the site as well as the number of visitors to the site each month. The reason that this information is so important is so you know what you are buying before you actually buy. The last thing that you want to do is to buy a site that never see any traffic because of poor SEO ranking.
You will need to ask the owner of the website some basic questions before you exchange any money for this site. You will need to ask the owner of the site things like that amount of traffic that the site gets on a regular basis. These stats will need to be confirmed with documentation from the provider, make sure to verify these facts as sometimes the facts of the true stats of the sites are often times misleading and tend to cause a person to buy a worthless site. Another thing that you can do on your own is to Google the site and see where it comes up on the search results.
After you have bought the site and confirmed the stats on it then you will get to have fun with the design of your site. Now you will not need to remember 5 billion lines of code. In fact most sites can be designed with little to no trouble at all. Many places offer step by step instructions as to how to go about designing a site that will get peoples attention and cause people to stop and pay notice.
The last thing that you will need to do is find a place to host your site. There are several places out there that will host your site with price plans ranging from free to around $30 a month for unlimited services. These are the things that you will need to keep in mind as there are several things to consider when buying and selling of a website. But if you do your homework in the end it will be worth your time and money.
