A business plan is a modern-day treasure map for the attraction marketer. On a treasure map, “X” marks the spot where the hidden treasure lies. If you consistently follow your plan, you’ll find your treasure. Creating a business or marketing plan allows you to map out where you are, where you want to go and when and how to get there. You also need to plan out and follow a budget so that you don’t run out of money on your way to your fortune.
It all begins with a passion for achieving your heart’s fondest desires. All great achievements begin with great thoughts. A determined mind is a powerful force for achieving success in internet attraction marketing. One of the all time greats among authors of self-improvement literature, Napoleon Hill, wrote: “First comes thought; then organization of that thought, into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.”
An online business is no different than an offline business when it comes to having a business plan. You wouldn’t start an offline business without a business or marketing plan, and you shouldn’t start an online business without one either. When I first started dreaming about having my own business, I created what was called a treasure map or a dream board.
Everyone’s familiar with pirates and treasure maps. Although the treasure that’s sought after is often gold, money or other riches, it can be many different things. It might be the key to a treasure chest or the solution to your problems. It could be the location of the “fountain of youth” or the solution to your health problems. It could also be the way to achieve success in personal relationships or the answers to your business problems.
A treasure map doesn’t have to lead you to gold, it can lead you to what you want to accomplish in life. It could be the answer to your prayers, but that doesn’t have to be all financial or financial at all. On your personal treasure map, you can list out what’s important to you. Generally, people will list the objects they want to own. You can draw or find pictures of your dream house, car, private jet or anything else you can think of. Here’s an example of a treasure map.
This dream board serves home-based entrepreneurs as well. It should include a comprehensive list of exactly what you as a new internet business person, hope to become. You need to put in words or pictures what you want to accomplish, and what you see as the ultimate reward you expect to have. This dream board should encompass all parts of your life, including your hopes for your personal life or your family. No one has ever said at the end of their life, “I wish I had spent more time at the office”. Hopes such as having more time for your family, being able to enjoy your work and adding more joy into your life will strengthen your plan and give you more resolve.
The words of your business plan can give reality and solidity to your dreams. This is what your own dream board might show.
I have a good time creating a dream board. It’s a fun, creative release of energy. Sometimes I’ll even create video dream boards by putting my hopes, dreams, plans and aspirations into a photo slide show and adding my favorite music. I’ll watch it a couple of times each day while working at my computer and when I do, my home office rocks.
